| | | | BOAT OWNER'S NOTES for 1987 GRAND BANKS 49 in EXCELLENT Condition,
call Boat Owner Ken @828-479-4939.
OVERVIEW: The Grand Banks is one of the most dependable cruising yachts in the world.,
When American Marine builds these yachts, reliability and dependability is the
primary goal, Only 150 of this Motor Yacht design were built.
From the bottom of the keel to the rub rails the fiberglass is 3/4 inch thick, The
full keel extends well below the propellers, In a grounding situation, the keel
protects the propellers and rudders.
Below the waterline the bottom has been painted with new anti-fouling paint, the
propellers have been removed, inspected and reinstalled, new cutlass bearings
and new zincs installed, Above the water line the hull has been buffed and waxed,
the stainless steel rub railing has been cleaned and waxed.
Ease of handling is primary in any yacht, This Grand Banks has two 375 HP
CATERPILLARS to turn the optional four blade 22 inch propellers,
At idle speed, the yacht will rotate in its own length, The boat can be maneuvered
in turns and in and out of docking with just the props and engine power, The deep
heavy keel contributes to the stability during docking and a provides an overall
comfortable ride.
Underway the auto pilot takes control and steers the boat on determined
heading, Small or large corrections to the heading are easily accomplished with
the auto pilot control located on the bridge or from the control station at the
inside lower helm.
In calm to moderate seas the sea keeping is excellent; again, the full keel keeps
the boat on course, When cruising in rough seas, the heavy weight, large propellers
and full keel insure a smooth ride.
The design of the hull and rub rails keeps most seas from breaking over the bow,
Large scuppers on the port and starboard drain the breaking water efficiently.
Cruising at 9 kts, 1300 RPM, the fuel consumption is an efficient 3 gallons per
hour per engine, In cruising mode there is no need to run the generators as this Grand Banks is
equipped with a new Xantex 3000 watt inverter charger, The refrigeration and ice maker are
operational via the engines, inverter and 4D battery bank.
While underway the
hot water heater is maintained by way of engines, Engine hot water is circulated
around the hot water heater to maintain constant hot water, New 8D starting
batteries and 4D house batteries were installed recently.
Offshore in deep clean sea water the 500 gallon per day Filtration Concepts water
maker refills the 500 gallon capacity water tanks quickly so that the generator
operation is kept to a minimum, While filling the water tanks you can do laundry
in the aft cabin washer.
The aft cabin has a queen size berth, very large hang up and storage lockers,
fresh water flushing toilets with USCG approved holding tank and valves, Under
the queen bed are two spare propellers, tools for changing the propellers and
storage for charts, flags and owner’s manuals, In the aft stateroom there are two
heads, Each head has a full size shower and in the starboard head you will find the
washer and dryer.
The forward cabin has a full size V berth and a second cabin with two single
berths, There is a full size shower with storage for dive gear, The forward toilet
uses sea water to flush, Under the floor you find an excessive amount of storage.
Below the salon floor the standup engine room is clean and neat, The two main
engines and two generators are safely and easily accessible for checking fluids
and checking the engines while underway, This GRAND BANKS is being sold with
spare filters, oil and fuel filters for the two 375 Hp CATERPILLARS and the two
generators, There is also a large selection of spare parts, such as impellers and
seals for the various pumps, spare v belts, spare starter motor for the CATERPILLARS,
tools, electric and hand tools, During the recent dry dock all of the thru hull
Fittings were cleaned and lubricated, new stainless steel strainer baskets and new
sight glasses and gaskets were installed, A spare tail shaft is stored in the engine
room, The engine room insulation has been renewed with state of the art sound
deadening foam and aluminum insulation from SOUNDOWN,
In addition to the standard American electrical power (120/240 volt 60 cycle) the
owner has installed two 5KW transformers to allow European electrical power
(220 volt 50 cycles) to be used on the boat while docked, An additional 220 volt
50 cycle battery charger is in the engine room.
On the bridge, the comfortable seating provides excellent visibility during the day
and night, The auto pilot control and depth sounders are easy to operate and see,
Two new VHF radios are easy to access, Life jackets are stored under the bridge
seats along with a large CO2 fire extinguisher, Two propane cylinders for cooking
are also under the bridge seats with USCG approved safety switches, Regulations
flares and throwable life rings are also stored on the bridge, The very large Bimini
top provides more than adequate protection from the sun and rain.
The aft deck provides space for the 8 foot Caribe tender and engine plus two
storage lockers for cleaning supplies and docking lines, The tender is launched
with a winch attached to the boom and raised and lowered over the side, One
person can launch the tender.
On the bow, two anchors are positioned on a very powerful windless, each anchor
has 250 feet of line and chain, The anchor windlass can be cooperated from 3
locations, the bow, the bridge or the lower inside helm, Dock lines are stored in
the storage locker on the bow.
