BOAT OWNER'S NOTES:
DESCRIPTION:
"Hootie", formerly "Spot" is a Doug Peterson 34 design built in 1982 by Meuller of Ohio.
It is a custom boat in that it has a deeper keel and longer boom than the stock version.
The boat has a rich Chicago to Mackinaw history and the Low Rise deck contributes to its race successes and sleek appearance.
FEATURES & EQUIPMENT:
An expansive cockpit and tiller steering provides room for a large crew and dinghy-like handling.
A full complement of winches, a hydraulic backstay tensioner and rigid vang allow infinite tuning of the double stayed aluminum rig.
The sail inventory is complete with light and heavy air spinnakers, newer carbon/kevlar main and headsails by Quantum as well as several cruising duty sails.
The cockpit has been rebuilt and newly painted as part of the full repowering with a Yanmar 30hp and Max-Prop ll drive.
The diesel engine has less than 25 hours and runs perfectly.
LAYOUT:
"Hootie" is a flat out race boat with a spartan yet cavernous interior.
Descending the companionway you will find a navigation station to starboard and a sink and cabinetry to port.
Two bunks extend aft on either side of the engine compartment and are very long.
They can each sleep two head to foot and there are two pipe berths aft as well...plenty of bunk space for the off-duty crew members on those overnight races.
The huge bow area ahead of the keel-stepped mast is open for sail storage or the conversion to a cabin if you prefer a race-cruiser configuration.
NOTES:
An all steel cradle is included and facilitates transport. "Hootie" has always sailed in fresh water and has no osmotic blistering.
The boat is on the hard in Traverse City, Michigan and has been properly prepared for its storage, Past race results, PHRF ratings, and surveys are available.
