It's the Alaskan 20' Predator Sportjet by SeaArk.

If you like to go up river like I do, this Predator will get you there, “and back”.

The boat has an extra wide 72" bottom making for excellent payload capacity for all your gear and your moose.

I have taken the boat up the Salcha River past the splits (TWICE).

I was impressed as much as I was afraid of what the boat was capable of doing in skinny water.

Things happen extremely fast on that part of the river.

On the way up she went over floating logs, downed trees, log jams, and through narrow channels with ease.

One would think that this was a scary ride, not so.

That night I tied off in a wash out in about 2 foot of water.

I always sleep on the boat; it’s a bear thing, ok!

I awoke to find my boat almost dry docked.

The water dropped over night, this was very very bad.

If you have ventured to the Splits you understand these things.

What was a river (sort of) the day before was now a creek for the next ten miles downstream with lots of sand, gravel and big rocks.

In places the channel was about two foot deep and four foot wide or so, not so bad considering you had a 72" hull under you.

The depth of the river itself was about one foot, did I mention lots rocks?

However, one foot of water would turn into two inches very fast.

And the only way to get through these waterless navigational challenges was too, damn the torpedo’s and go full throttle.

Sometimes you made it through and sometimes not.

Walking 80 or 90 miles with bears and dead salmon, just didn’t sound fun.

She went places a 4x4 would not go and she took a licking.

The dealer stated the hull was structural sound.

However, her bottom was just butt ugly.

I replaced the hull with ¼ inch thick aluminum @ $8,000.00.

A little over kill maybe, but after all it was my Predator.

It took good care of me, so I take very good care of her.

She is an excellent fishing platform for six people, very stable.

She has proven herself at Valdez out to Galina Bay and at Homer.

She has dipped netted at the Chitna and Kenai Rivers.

She has fished for Pike on the Yukon and Dole Rivers.

It comes fully loaded to fish and hunt.

It has all the equipment to make the Coast Guard happy when they board you and they will!!

What is it about a camouflaged boat at Valdez that attracts the Coast Guard?

It comes with a GPS color Fish Finder that contains an excellent electronic Sea Chart of Alaska’s coastal water ways.

If you are ever caught in the fog, it will get you back to port.

Now that was a very scary ride.

The dealer claims the boat is not supposed to sink because of the built in foam.

At Valdez, knowing this may bring you a little bit of comfort if you didn’t read the weather or the waters so well.

Bailing water and sharks is not the best way one should be spending their time, no thank you. “Sharks are nothing but wet bears in my book”!

Will it float?

Never stuck around long enough to find out!

Wisdom and 175 horses at full throttle always took me back to port!!!
